The Cantina Donna Emilia, owned by the Angelo and Luca Lubrano Agricultural Society, is located in the district of Rapolano Terme, located 450 meters above sea level and fifteen kilometers from the center, in the Podere Ascianello. It was built in 2013, paying particular attention to the preservation of traditions and the indispensable sensitivity for innovation.
The limited quantities produced, as well as the ability to monitor each phase of the production process with technical/ scientific skills, are certainly the strengths of the company. The grapes vinified by the winery come from about six hectares, of which 1.3 are cultivated with vineyards. The rest are for horticulture and olive growing.
The viticultural ecosystem of this territory is very unique, both for nature and exposure of the land, for the particular climatic conditions, and for the vines and agronomic techniques adopted. The hilly and stony soil, the mild winters, with regular distribution of rain between October and March, the hot and dry summers, contribute to creating extremely favourable conditions for quality viticulture.
The choice of planting Sangiovese grapes was made, taking into consideration the richness of the territory, ideal for this type of harvest, which is highly valued. The choice of the breeding methods is a determining parameter for the structure and the results, in terms of both the quality and the production. The method adopted is the spurred cordon, on which four spurs with two buds are left on the shoot. The sixth plant has a distance of 2.50 meters in the inter-row and a distance of 1 meter between the rows.
